Why ten people around a table can beat a thousand-person network

1 September 2026 · 4 min read

Most networks are built for reach. Thousands of members, a feed, an events calendar, a directory you never open. At the beginning of an entrepreneurial journey, none of that is what you actually need.

What you need is a handful of people who know what you are working on, remember what you said last month, and are willing to tell you when your idea has a hole in it.

Small rooms create obligation

In a room of ten, silence is noticeable. Every person is expected to bring something and take something. Nobody can hide behind the crowd, and nobody has to fight for airtime.

That obligation is the point. It turns an audience into a group, and a group into a table.

The network you can name is worth more than the network you can count.

Why 10×1 is exactly ten

Ten is roughly the number of people you can genuinely track. You know their idea, their customer, their biggest assumption. You notice when they have made progress and when they have stalled.

Beyond that, the room becomes a broadcast. And there are already plenty of places to broadcast.
